What is a Growler?
According to our primitive research, out of the five random Capetonians we’ve asked, none knew what a beer growler was.
A growler is a large air-tight container used for the transport of beer back in the day. Though the origins of the container are unknown, the term ‘growler’ is said to have originated as a reference to the sound emitted from the bottle as a result of carbon dioxide escaping from the beer inside.
Today breweries offer growler refill programs, where patrons can bring washed beer growlers back to the brewery for guaranteed refills at a reduced price.

Woodstock Brewery uses a Pegas growler filler that purges the oxygen in the growler replacing it with C02 before filling, ensuring a fresher, better tasting beer.
