South African Wineries with the Most Facebook Likes

The struggle for likes are real.

Since the launch of The Facebook on February 4, 2004, it was set to change the world as we know it, but it was not till 2009 that the South African winelands started to warm up to it.

Today, with more than 12 million monthly South African users, Facebook is serious business. Gone are the days of organic growth of your business page audience. The bigger the budget the larger the following.

Of the 417 Facebook pages we’ve audited, 3 South Africa wineries had over 100 000 likes. On average farms had 5300 likes per winery and of the Top 10 with the most likes, only Warwick Estate was not a corporate or conglomerate of some sorts.

Buying Likes will hurt you!

Put away your wallet. The days of hunting for likes are over.

One of the obvious pitfalls when buying an audience on Facebook is a low EdgeRanking. Facebook uses the engagement your page generates to understand how interesting your content is and how many of your fans should see it. Having thousands of inactive, non-engaged users will make you look bad to Facebook’s eyes and your posts will reach less people organically.

Is Social Media dying?

Although this year will probably go down in history as the year of PokemonGo to a lesser extend it’s also the year social media died a little on us.

While Twitter is overrun by zombie bots and Instagram littered with fake love bots, Facebook holds strong, killing off every social start-up in its way.

According to eMarketer, of the 43 minutes a day we spend on social media in 2016, 22 minutes are spent on Facebook. By 2018, we will only spend three more minutes a day on social networks, of which a whole minute will be dedicated to Facebook alone.

However to get any attention on the social giant going forward, wineries will need to focus more on what their fans would like to see, instead of what they would like their fan to see.
